3. Collection of Data on Our Website
Server Log Files
When you visit this website, the hosting infrastructure automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These are:
  • Browser type and browser version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL (the previously visited page)
  • Host name of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request
  • IP address
This data cannot be directly assigned to specific individuals. This data will not be merged with other data sources. The processing is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operational safety, stability, IT security, and error analysis of the server infrastructure.
Comments
User data from comment forms (including IP address and user-agent string for browser identification) are processed for the purpose of spam detection. The storage is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can revoke at any time for the future by sending an e-mail to the contact details provided above.
Gravatar Service
To check for profile pictures, an anonymized hash value of your e-mail address may be transmitted to the Gravatar service (Automattic Inc.). After your comment is approved, your profile picture is publicly visible in the comment section. The processing is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to personalize blog posts.
Cookies
The website uses cookies (small text files stored on your device):
  • Comment Cookies: Store your name, e-mail address, and website to make it easier for you to leave future comments. This is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
  • Login and Setting Cookies: Store login information and the chosen display options (e.g., language or layout) for the technical provision of the website functions. This is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
YouTube Videos
Components of the YouTube service may be embedded on this website. The operator is YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA (a subsidiary of Google LLC).
When you access a page with embedded YouTube videos, a connection to YouTube’s servers is established. This tells the YouTube server which of our pages you have visited. If you are logged into your YouTube account, you enable YouTube to assign your surfing behavior directly to your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your account. The embedding is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to provide visual media content.
Webfonts
For the uniform display of fonts, this website uses external fonts (Webfonts) loaded from external servers (in particular Google Fonts). When you access a page, your browser loads the required web fonts into its browser cache. In doing so, the provider of the fonts learns your IP address and that our website was accessed. This is done within the scope of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in an visually appealing and technically consistent design of the blog.
4. Retention Period
Comments and their metadata are stored indefinitely to automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Server log files are automatically deleted in accordance with the security and retention guidelines of the hosting infrastructure as soon as they are no longer required for operational safety.
5. Your Rights
In principle, you have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, withdrawal, and objection regarding your data stored by us.
Complaints can be lodged with the competent supervisory authority. In Austria, this is the:
