VCC proudly presents:

Tools for the Wifi Ultra USER-port modem firmware with UTP extensions.
This UTP messaging can be used for chat programs or online games on CBM machines.

Further details, also to the improved Wifi Ultra Hardware, can be found here:
https://blog.fh-kaernten.at/retrofusion/wireless-connection-for-commodore-computers/

Check you use a USER-port modem with the latest Wifi Ultra firmware installed.

Then mount the wifiultra.d64 in your emulator or 1541 emulator HW.

This file contains some BASIC tools demonstrating the use of the extended features.
Please be aware that the BASIC programs are stored with a C64, so for VIC-20 ensure
not to load them with load"xxx",8,1 but load"xxx",8.
It also contains "chatty", a program which allows to chat between two CBM machines.

The first program you can load gives you a short overview, which is:

.) The BASIC program "basterm" demonstrates rs232 communication with the modem.
All you type is sent to the modem, all the modem responses is shown on the screen.
It also does some minimal ASCII/PETSCII conversion.
It is just enough to be used to debug issues with the Wifi Ultra modem setup.

.) But at first, you should load and edit the BASIC program "wificonf". Then run it.
Set up your WiFi network, the desired UTP server port and the speed dial for Chatty.
You should save the settings permanently in NVM of the modem, otherwise you have
to run it every time after a power cycle. Wificonf allows to set up passwords which
can not be easily mapped to PETSCII and thus not directly typed in a terminal proggy.

.) Load "chatty". A Version for C64 and for 3k expanded VIC20 exist on the D64.
Chatty is a simple tool allowing exchanging messages up to 37 characters between two
computers (VICE VIC-20/C64, "real" VIC-20 or "real" C64) using UTP packages.

The program expects that the Wifi Ultra modem is connected to the internet and that
the UTP server is already running. The IP/port counterpart needs to be stored on
speed dial 7 in the modem. All this can be done with "wificonf", see above.

Be aware: use this tools at your own risk. So if you damage your HW it is your problem alone!
Be also aware that you use a rather unprotected ethernet node, thus ensure safety
precautions when connecting the modem to the evil internet...

Especially don't let the modem connected unattended, hackers are everywhere. Stay safe!
